The five-day 18th Plenary Assembly for the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA) has ended with a call to the membership to self-transformation in their evangelism work.
In her closing remarks, ACWECA President Sr. Cecilia Njeri urged the member associations of Sisterhood to adopt new ideas shared by participants during the assembly.
“I believe many good experiences have been shared and good lessons learned. We are called to embark on a journey of self-transformation in order to become better instruments of transforming the society around us and making a difference.” Said Sr Njeri.
Sr Njeri further challenged the leadership of Consecrated women in ACWECA to adopt servant leadership style in their respective countries.
“Starting from day one, each speaker, starting with the key note speaker, have emphasized reformation towards holistic transformation. It is time we change the pyramid of power and have those at the top at the bottom, to embrace the Servant Leadership of Christ,” added Sr. Njeri.
The ACWECA President then applauded their 18th Plenary Assembly saying it has provided excellent opportunity to come up with solutions and a driver for meaningful, positive impact in ministry to the people they serve.
Sr. Njeri also encouraged the Consecrated women in the region to move forward in their ministerial work despite the unprecedented situation with the global Covid19 pandemic.
“It has not stopped us from realizing our Mission and Vision as a Region. We are called to face the many already-existing challenges and those yet to come, in a spirit of responsibility and fraternity/communion, and dreaming together,” Sr. Njeri added.
Sr. Njeri who is also Superior General of the Little Sisters of St. Francis in Uganda also thanked donor partners for the continued support of their mission: Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Hilton Fund for Sisters, Porticus, USCCB, Missio Aachen, Missio Munich, Archdiocese of Cologne, Aid in Church in Need, Propaganda Fide, Miller Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, CRS and AMECEA
The 18th Plenary Assembly of ACWECA was under the theme “Re-Awaken the Prophetic Role: A Call for Re-formation Towards Holistic Transformation in ACWECA region today (Jn 17: 16-18)”
Participants of the Assembly had an opportunity of sharing experiences in the past years on how they can strive in their ministry.
