Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mongu, Rt. Rev. Evans Chinyemba, OMI says the responsibility to make choices in political life rests with each individual in the light of a properly formed conscience.

Writing his reflection in the August edition of his Diocese’s Online Magazine, Bishop Chinyemba called upon Zambians to go out and vote saying it is their civic duty as Zambia is a democratic nation that elects leaders through the ballot box by casting our vote.

“Make your vote reflect your informed conscience. May your vote speak for the many young people and others who are unable to vote because age and other circumstances beyond their control,” he said.

“Let the 12th August, 2021 elections reflect a mature electorate who cast their ballot with responsibility for the wellbeing and future good of the nation. May the Holy Spirit enlighten you as you go in peace to cast your ballot,” he added.

The bishop further advised voters to question themselves how their neighbour is doing economically and socially before casting a vote.

“Conscience should speak to you, guide you and challenge you in these few days remaining before we go to the polls. Your vote will reflect what you have experienced,” he said.

“You cannot merely stand there and continue criticizing government, you have a right to vote and change that which you feel is not right. Again, conscience speaks to you and directs your steps,” he concluded.

Some people in Zambia are sceptical to vote in this year’s elections due to some reported violence cases during the campaigns.
