SOUTH SUDAN: Catholic Diocese of Yei, Solidarity South Sudan Train the Youth on Leadership

The Catholic Diocese of Yei in collaboration with solidarity South Sudan in August 3, 2021, organized three days training on leadership for twenty (20) young people under the theme “Strong Catholic families, Strong Catholic youth leadership”.
The training aims to enhance youth leaders’ capacity to understand leadership in the Church and society, how to explore more techniques and to acquire knowledge on being a good Christian leader
During the open session, the Bishop of Yei Diocese Rt. Rev. Erkolano Lodu Tombe called on young people to carry out their leadership duties today so as to become good leaders in the future as the country needs good and strong leadership.
“You are the leaders tomorrow, it’s true but even now we expect you to be leaders. You never know when that tomorrow is going to come and if you want to be a good leader tomorrow you have to start now where ever you are, whatever you are doing. Leadership is now not about tomorrow and when I say now, it is expressed in the way you do the little responsibility that is put before you as a young man or woman, your responsibility in that family. To form family and to lead that family and to be a person of some responsibility in that particular society in community, political society, business society and in the church as lay person,” Bishop Erkolano stated.
“For you young people I don’t believe that you are the leaders of tomorrow, you are the leaders of now and if you exercise leadership now, you are going to be top leaders of tomorrow. Mature in leadership, grow in the leadership, don’t be deceived too much by those who say leadership is tomorrow for leadership is now,” he continued.
Meanwhile solidarity South Sudan representative Fr. Chris John has urged the youth to change their thinking abilities to change society, community and country at large.
“Change cannot come just automatically. Sometimes you expect change without changing yourself, sometimes we are not ready to change or we are not open to change ourselves yet we want to others to change. If you want change in society, family, Church or country, first change yourself according to that change that you want. If you want to peace, build up peace in you; if you want to have reconciliation, build up yourself for that; if you want to have forgiveness, build yourself on how to forgive others. If you don’t do it, don’t expect others to do it. Your change will have impact on other, on the society and on the church”.
The training brought young people from chapels, prayer centres, parishes and schools within Yei Diocese.
