ETHIOPIA: A Delegation from The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia Visits the Internally Displaced in the Eparchy of Bahir Dar-Dessie

A delegation led by His Excellency Abune Seyoum, Vicar Apostolate of Hosanna has visited the internally displaced people in the Eparchy of Bahir Dar-Dessie which is one of the 13 ecclesiastical jurisdictions under the Ethiopian Catholic Church.
The purpose of the visit was to show solidarity, encourage and provide support to the people affected by the recurrent conflicts in Metekel zone, Chagni Woreda and the surrounding area in the Eparchy,
The delegation consisted of His Grace Antoine Camilleri apostolic Nuncio to Ethiopia, Secretary General of the Ethiopian Catholic Church Abba Teshome Fikre, representatives of the General Secretariat of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia, the Conference of Major Religious Superiors, Our lady Priests’ Association of Ethiopian Catholic Church, and the National Laity Council of the Ethiopian Catholic Church.
During the visit the delegates held discussions with the Clergy, the Consecrated Life and the faithful living in Bahir Dar, Metekel, Chagni and Gilgel Beles and listened to personal experiences and challenges caused by the conflicts.
The delegation also held discussions with the Governmental Administration and various agencies of the Metekel Zone.
During his speech, His Excellency Bishop Syioum said the Church will continue to support and help those affected by the conflict and work together with the Eparchy to rehabilitate the displaced people.
The Government officials, for their part, thanked the Catholic Church for her support, both past, present, and urged her to continue supporting and responding to the current crisis.
Bishop of the Eparchy of Bahir Dar- Dessie His Excellency Bishop Lisanuchristos, the Vicar General Reverence Abba Sintayehu Gelaw welcomed and accompanied the delegation during the entire visit in the Eparchy.
