Former Students of the Catholic Students Organisation (CSO) of the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) on 26th December 2020, extended their helping hand to sick children admitted at Holy Family Mission in Phalombe district as part of sharing Christmas joy.

The visit to the health facility comes at a time when the Blantyre Chapter for the CSO alumni of CUNIMA plans to have a launch of the group during the Easter season.

Speaking at the event, the Registrar of the Catholic University of Malawi, Mr Francis Vincent Nkhoma who passed through the corridors of the University said the grouping opted for Holy Family Mission Hospital as most well-wishers settle for health facilities that are in urban areas for their reach out.

“Most of the times people concentrate their efforts in hospitals and facilities that are located close to the city, especially the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre, forgetting those that are in rural areas,” said Nkhoma.

He added that the grouping planned to donate assorted items ranging from sugar, soap, rice, salt, juices, bread to sick children admitted as part of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ who was born to save humankind from suffering.

A guardian to a sick child admitted at the hospital due to a leg problem, Ms Suzan Nalivata expressed gratitude to the group and urged the members to continue reaching out to many people that need support.

One of the management personnel for the hospital, Mr Cornelius Buluzi said the facility could not have afforded to share Christmas joy during the festival season hence the need for well-wisher visits to come and cheer the sick in children’s award.

The CUNIMA CSO alumni group is among the groups of former students of the Catholic University of Malawi since its opening in 2006.

The group plans to connect with fellow former Catholic Students in 2021 in reaching out to people that need help.
