The Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi Rev. Dr. George Buleya has challenged Academic Staff to venture into academic research as a way of promoting excellence and holistic education in the country.
Speaking during a training to Academic Staff on Research last week, the Vice-Chancellor of the University urged the staff to strive on Research in the country.
“A University cannot be famous for its teaching without research. A university must be a centre of research for students and staff members. I would like to urge everyone to take this area very seriously,” Said Rev. Dr. Buleya.
Rev. Dr. Buleya added that the University is ready to provide resources to its academic staff members that have topics reflecting excellence in research.
The Vice-Chancellor also urged the Academic Staff of the University to behave with utmost discipline by continuing having the social distance between them and students and refraining from absenteeism.
Director of Academic Affairs at the Catholic University of Malawi, Rev. Dr. Dominic Kadzingatchire said the training on research is to help in setting standards for academic inquiry to its students.
As a way of promoting research among its academic staff, the Catholic University of Malawi established a Research Directorate to help lecturers and students to strive for competitive research in the country and beyond Malawi.
The training witnessed Academic Staff of the University being drilled on general standards regarding research proposal, research reporting, and supervision.
Over one hundred Academic Staff from the seven faculties, namely: Commerce, Education, Law, Nursing and Midwifery, Science, Social Sciences, and Theology attended the training.
