MALAWI: Archbishop Ziyaye to be Buried with Military Honours

The Malawi Government has directed that the remains of Archbishop Tarcizio Gervasio Ziyaye of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe be buried with military honours on Saturday, 19th December 2020 in the capital city Lilongwe.
Archbishop Ziyaye who died early hours of Monday 13th December 2020 in the Republic of Namibia will be laid to rest inside Maula Parish per Canon Law.
In a statement released on Thursday 17th December 2020 signed by Secretary to the President and Cabinet Zanga Zanga Chikhosi, the Government recognises the late Archbishop for his role played in the country.
“His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera has directed that the Late Archbishop Ziyaye be accorded with military honours, in recognition of the late Archbishop’s enormous service to the country,” reads part of the statement.
The Government of Malawi has since sent deepest condolences to the Roman Catholic Church for the untimely death of the Archbishop.
The Most Reverend Tarcizio Gervazio Ziyaye, DP, was born on 19th May 1949 at Khombe Village, Ludzi Parish, Mchinji District. He was ordained a priest on 14th August 1977.
The Late Archbishop has also served as the first Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi and Bishop Chair of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi.
