ZAMBIA: Bishop Hamungole Lauds Parishes Communication Initiatives During Covid-19 Pandemic

Bishop Director for Communication for Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Rt. Rev. Moses Hamungole has commended the initiatives taken by various parishes in all dioceses to stream Eucharistic celebrations live on various social media platforms when mass gatherings were suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Bishop Hamungole said this when he opened the 2020 ZCCB’ Communications Commission meeting in Lusaka.
He noted that the pandemic saw even priests that don’t work with social media or mainline media coming out to livestream Mass, a development which he said should be lauded.
“We saw priests who don’t work with social media or mainline media coming out to livestream mass especially during the Holy Week so much that there was no big vacuum of the liturgical celebrations during that important time,” he said.
Bishop Hamungole added that the initiative, however, should continue even with the resumption of Masses in churches as the livestreaming on various platforms can still reach the sick and other people that may not have an opportunity to physically go to Church.
For this reason, Rt. Rev. Hamungole said that such efforts should continue.
“These initiatives should continue. They should not just be initiatives that were used when there was a partial lockdown. Those parishes that used social media to livestream mass to reach out to parishioners should be encouraged to continue,” he added.
He also lauded all Catholic radio stations for airing mass during the period when churches closed due to the pandemic and urged them to continue doing so.
Bishop Moses has also disclosed that in the next two years, all the dioceses in Zambia may have radio stations.
