UGANDA: President Museveni Pledges Support to Lira Diocese

His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda has pledged support for the renovation and expansion of the Bishop’s residence as a second phase of the rehabilitation project at Lira Cathedral.
The President made the pledge while addressing the religious leaders and a section of political and civil leaders shortly after inspecting the renovated Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Lira where he had contributed towards its first phase of the renovation with a tune of 400 million shillings approximately (US$107,134).
President Museveni who paid a visit to inspect the renovated Cathedral a day after it was commissioned on Tuesday 19th October 2020 said out of the total amount of money he pledged, 300 million Uganda Shillings will be used to facilitate the renovation and expansion of the Bishop’s residence while 100 million Shillings will be used to facilitate the construction of the parking yard.
The President further pledged to give six tractors to the diocese in a move to boost commercial farming in the diocese, including 70 iron sheets waiting to be delivered to each parish in the diocese.
Before he made his pledges, the President commended the people of Lango, for being innovative in fighting household poverty through wealth creation initiatives drive, giving example of commercial farming and other initiatives.
He particularly commended and recognized the contribution of the religious leaders in the region for bringing social development among the people, saying they have set the legacy that Christians should emulate.
The President later addressed the people gathered at the Ordination ground before proceeding to Anai in Lira City for the ground-breaking ceremony for construction of 199 kilometre road from Rwenkunye-Masindi Port via Apac-Lira to Acholibur in Pader district northern Uganda.
