Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has concluded the 2020 Season of Creation commemorations with a tree planting exercise at the residence of priests working at the Catholic Secretariat.
And the ZCCB Secretary General Fr. Cleophas Lungu has appealed to Catholic Secretariat staff to care for the environment at their homestead.
Addressing the Catholic Secretariat staff during the tree planting exercise held at the newly constructed priests’ residence located in the premises of St. Dominic’s Major Seminary, Fr. Lungu said the tree planting was done to express their quest to replenish the trees that were cleared off during the construction of the house.
“When we were constructing the house, there were several trees, plants that we cut down. As priests of this community, we resolved that we are going to do something to repair the damage we did. As priests, we want to take the attitude of care; the attitude of promoting the green ecology; the attitude of beautifying the places where we live,” said Fr. Lungu.
Fr. Lungu further thanked everyone that had a hand in the 2020 season of creation commemoration among them Caritas Zambia, the youths and Lumen TV Zambia.
He then appealed to the Catholic Secretariat staff to take lead in caring for the environment especially at their homesteads.
“When we come to your home, we want to see that that there is a fruit tree nearby, flowers. We want to see that you care for the environment. Time to start implementing the message of Laudato Si is now,” Fr. Lungu urged the staff.
Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops lined up a number of activities for the 2020 Season of Creation celebrations that included Webinar presentations and media appearances.
