UGANDA: Floods Claim Kyasira Home of Hope

By CCC – Uganda

Kyasira home of hope in Entebbe – Uganda, a home for the vulnerable children has been claimed by the flooding of Lake Victoria, leaving 62 vulnerable children and the Religious Sisters who give them care stranded in a nearby farm house.

This incident came around at a time of transitioning from childcare institutions to family environment.

Thirty-nine (39) children have been taken by families while 23 who remained abandoned without known relatives have been displaced with their caregivers as the lake waters continued to claim the entire children’s home.

The nuns used a boat to rescue the remaining properties to a new location as the lake waters became overwhelmingly impossible to wade through.

Kyasira Home of Hope belongs to the Archdiocese of Kampala. It has been entrusted to the stewardship of the Good Samaritan Sisters. The 62 vulnerable children both boys and girls are between three to seventeen years.

What used to be the boys’ and girls’ dormitories, the kitchen, toilets, garden and Sisters’ residence is now immersed and lost in the mighty waters of Lake Victoria.

The shattered children’s home claimed by Lake Victoria was built close to the shores.
