Bishop of Shinyanga Rt. Rev. Liberatus Sangu, has appealed for support that will enable the Diocese rehabilitate the diocesan cathedral and Radio Faraja FM which were recently affected by heavy rains and strong winds.
He has made the request during the meeting which involved priests from all parishes in the Diocese, laity leaders of Ngokolo Cathedral and the management team of Radio Faraja Fm which is owned by the Diocese.
“Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds destroyed the Radio Station’s tower, which fell on the Cathedral and caused extensive damage on one part of the church” said Bishop Sangu.
As a result of the incident, he said, the Church in Shinyanga Diocese is affected since the Cathedral carries the image of the Diocese while Radio Faraja Fm is the main communication and evangelistic tool in the Diocese, hence urgent action is needed.
He has directed all people of good will to make their contributions to a specific diocesan bank account named Liberatus Sangu.
On his part, the director of Radio Faraja Fr Anatoly Salawa said that despite the challenges they are facing, the radio came back on air but they are currently working on installing antennas in the remaining part of the tower while other measures to repair the damaged infrastructure continue.
