SOUTH SUDAN: Pope Francis Appoints Archbishop Ameyu Apostolic Administrator of Wau Diocese

Six months after the installation of Most Rev. Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla as the Archbishop of Juba, Pope Francis on Monday, September 21, has appointed him the new Apostolic Administrator of Wau Diocese.
In a statement signed by the Vatican’s Charge d’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in South Sudan, Monsignor Mark Kadima, Archbishop Ameyu will govern Wau Diocese “until the new Bishop is chosen.”
Announcing the appointment on behalf of the Apostolic Nuncio in South Sudan His Excellency Archbishop Bert van Megen, Msgr. Kadima noted that “the appointment takes effect immediately.”
“His Grace Ameyu will also continue serving as the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Juba and as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Torit,” reads in part the Monday statement confirming a decree released early this year from the Holy See when the Pope appointed Archbishop Ameyu the Apostolic Administrator of Torit diocese.
Diocese of Wau has been vacant since March 2017, after the death of Bishop Rudolf Deng Majak and has been under the leadership of Diocesan Administrator, Fr. Marko Mongu.
In the statement, Msgr. Kadima thanked Fr. Mongu for the period of service saying, “United with all of you, we wish to thank Rev. Fr. Marko Mongu for his dedicated service to the diocese of Wau for the last three and a half years, as well as his cooperation with the Holy See.”
