AMECEA: Chairman Condoles with Prelates in Kenya after the Death of Bishop Emeritus Linus Okok

The Chairman of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) Rt. Rev. Charles Sampa Kasonde has expressed condolences to members of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) following the death of the founding Bishop of Homa Bay Diocese Rt. Rev. Emeritus Linus Okok Okwach.
“I received with deep sorrow the news of the passing on to our Heavenly house our brother Bishop Rt. Rev. Linus Okok Okwach, Bishop Emeritus of Homa Bay Diocese,” reads part of the condolence message addressed to the KCCB Chairman Archbishop Philip Anyolo who is also the Apostolic Administrator of Homa Bay Diocese.
“While accepting God’s will with humility, we thank Almighty God for the gift of Bishop Okwach to the Church and for the selfless service which he rendered to the people of God in the Diocese of Homa Bay, Kenya,” Bishop Kasonde of Zambia’s Solwezi Diocese stated and appreciated the late Bishop’s time and energy to “Promote the spirit of fraternity and solidarity which AMECEA stands for.”
In the letter dated Friday, September 25, and copied to AMECEA Secretary General Fr. Anthony Makunde, the Chairman on behalf of the AMECEA bishops and the secretariat also condoled with the family, relatives, friends and the entire family of God in the Diocese of Homa Bay where the late Bishop “served with dedication and sacrifice.”
Meanwhile in a separate statement signed by Archbishop Anyolo the Local Ordinary of Kisumu Archdiocese, the late Bishop Okok whose burial was earlier slated for Tuesday, September 22, will now be buried on Wednesday, September 30.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to notify you that the burial of the late Rt. Rev. Linus Okok Okwach- Bishop Emeritus of Homa Bay which was scheduled for 22nd of September 2020, has been postponed to 30th of September 2020at St. Paul’s Cathedral-Homa Bay,” the statement dated Sunday, September 20, reads in part.
