Mlale Seminary Alumni Association has donated Covid19 sanitary materials.
This happened following Malawi Government’s order that schools that meet all requirements set by the Presidential Committee on Covid-19 reopen on 7th September, 2020.
The Chairperson of the association Mr. Joseph Dyele has communicated to the entire membership that their executive has decided to respond to the call by the Seminary’s management for assistance.
“You may recall that we received an appeal on Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) from the Rector of the seminary in readiness for schools reopening on 7th September 2020. Considering the urgency of the issue, the executive discussed and agreed to withdraw money from the Alumni bank account to help the seminary procure the necessary items,” reads part of the communique which this reporter has seen.
The Rector of the Seminary Fr. Peter Kapiri said that the donation was timely as they had run out of resources to procure the items in readiness for Form 4 students who were to report on 5th September 2020.
“Actually, the Alumni Association has been handy in many other areas and when we lacked these resources, we did not hesitate but knock on their door for help. We are happy with the working relationship that is there between the two institutions,” said Fr. Kapiri.
Mlale Seminary received through electronic cash transfer approximately USD 617, that was used to purchase items such as hand washing buckets, hand sanitisers, soap, infrared thermometers and face masks.
The Seminary has 26 pupils in Form Four and is expected to welcome students for Forms 1 to 3 on 10th October 2020, bringing the total number of pupils to 245.
All schools and colleges in Malawi were closed on 23rd March 2020 as means of containing the spread of the Covid19 pandemic.
As of September 11, 2020, the pandemic has since claimed 176 lives out of 5,621 confirmed cases from 46,750 total number of tests conducted, with 3,683 recovered.
