KENYA: Churches Unite to Fight Corruption and Negative Ethnicity

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), together with other umbrella Church organizations on 27th, August 2020 called on Christians and people of goodwill to uphold, promote and protect positive values in the constitution.
Speaking during the celebration of the Tenth anniversary of the Inauguration of the 2010 revised Constitution of Kenya at the Holy Family Minor Basilica, KCCB Chairman and the Archbishop of Kisumu Most Rev. Philip Anyolo urged Kenyans to fight corruption and negative ethnicity by promoting integrity and inclusivity.
“As we bless the copies of the Constitution before us, we seek God’s intervention to give us strength, graces and blessings that we need to pursue social justice and the common good,” he said.
Meanwhile in his Homily during the Holy Mass to mark the anniversary, the Archbishop of Nyeri Most Rev. Anthony Muheria who is the Chairman for KCCB Commission for Pastoral and Lay Apostolate echoed the words of Archbishop Anyolo.
“Our Constitution, is a legal tool that should enable us rise from the bondage of our individual interests, evil tendencies, and social ills like tribalism, corruption, nepotism and discriminations,” he said.
Archbishop Muheria said that a Constitution that does not enable growth in spiritual values among the citizen would be a “lame constitution”, one that empties the human person of his spirituality and dignity.
“We celebrate the gains made in valuing human person; we pray that Our Constitution continues to bring light, liberty, material and spiritual excellence to our human society and never ever darkness and bondage of the human heart,” he said.
