Members of the Diocesan Taskforce on COVID-19 have taken the campaign to rural areas where they are disseminating awareness messages and distributing hygienic and personal protective equipment.
This is one of the activities that the Taskforce has lined up to ensure that a lot of people in rural areas are reached and equipped with the necessary knowledge regarding Coronavirus so that they can protect themselves and their families.
Through a road show campaign, using a public address system and interface meetings with villagers, the Taskforce is targeting remote and hard-to-reach areas of the Diocese.
The chairperson of the Diocesan Taskforce on COVID-19, Brother Frank Mwambucha FMS, said he is overwhelmed by the community’s positive response, adding that it shows their eagerness to know more about Coronavirus and subsequently protect themselves from contracting it.
“I feel extremely delighted to interact with large numbers of people in the rural areas of the Diocese, especially on this very important issue,” added Bro Mwambucha.
Bro Mwambucha then encouraged community leaders, well-wishers to ensure that they continue disseminating the messages to sustain the campaign and make small efforts to procure cheap soap and re-usable masks for the needy in their areas.
The Taskforce chairperson also encouraged community members to promote a spirit of helping each other in various ways during this difficult time of the pandemic.
Speaking at one of the interactive meetings, Chief Mlangali of Mpyupyu area commended the Catholic Diocese of Zomba for the program, saying that his subjects are going to benefit a lot.
Besides disseminating awareness messages, the diocesan Taskforce also distributed soap, re-usable cloth masks and hand sanitizers. Leaflets and posters carrying COVID-19 messages were also distributed.
Rt. Rev. George Desmond Tambala, Bishop of Zomba Diocese, launched a diocesan Taskforce on COVID-19 as a diocesan response to the fight against the pandemic.
