MALAWI: PMS Launches World Mission Sunday Preparations
By Trizer Sakonda
The Pontifical Missionary Society (PMS) in Malawi has launched a three months preparation period for World Mission Sunday normally celebrated in October every year.
Speaking at the launch of the Preparation in Lilongwe, PMS National Director Fr Vincent Mwakhwawa has urged the Christians to be instruments of missionary work to the ends of the world through acts of love.
“It is my sincere hope that Catholics in the country will take this three-month period as one that will help them enrich their Christian faith and above all offer service to the church” said Fr. Mwakhwawa.
“We are racing against a deadly contagion and this should not bar us from showing love to others and serve our neighbors,” he added.
Representative of the Laity Council in Malawi Dr. Mary Shaba concurred with Fr. Mwakhwawa and encouraged the Catholics in the country to deepen their faith during this period through service and spreading the gospel.
“The Church has given us yet another rare opportunity to show our commitment in ensuring that the gospel reaches the ends of the world. Amidst Covid-19, let’s not forget about our unwavering love for God and humanity “said Shaba.
World Mission Sunday was first established in 1926 by Pope Pius XI.
This year’s theme is “Here I am Send Me,” adapted from prophet Isaiah 6:8.
