ZAMBIA: Caritas Zambia, CSOs, To Train Journalists on Seed Politics And Climate Change

Caritas Zambia has mobilised Journalists from various media houses in Zambia to train them on how to promote advocacy work around seed politics, climate change and nutrition.
Caritas Zambia Livelihoods and Climate Change Adaptation Programme specialist Mubanga Musamba has disclosed the development.
“In partnership with PELUM Zambia, CSO SUN, Caritas Zambia will be training 25 journalists in seed politics, climate change and environment including nutrition. This will take place from 28th to 29th July 2020 at Kapingila Guest House in Lusaka,” she said.
Ms. Mubanga further said the training is also aimed at getting support, raise awareness, interest and for media personnel to understand the seed politics, climate change and environment including nutrition.
“This training has been organised to build the capacity of journalists in advocacy on seed politics and climate change. The main aim of the training is to build capacity of journalists to produce articles that provide positive change in seed and climate change policies,” Ms Musamba said.
“As agents of change, journalists are at the centre of advocacy, on one hand projecting the voices of the rights holders while on the other getting the community voices known to duty bearers and giving them a platform to provide feedback,” she added.
Ms. Musamba has also disclosed that the media training is in preparation for media awards that are planned for later in the year to journalists writing about seed politics and climate change.
“There is realisation that the media articles assessed needed more depth in the issues around seed politics and climate change. In particular, the journalists need more understanding of the seed politics and climate change to confidently produce articles for the media,” she noted.
