By By Isaac Ojok
The Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok has appealed to all Christians to adhere to all the Presidential directives in a bid to control further outbreak of Coronavirus also known as COVID-19.
The Bishop made the appeal in an exclusive interview on Friday when asked to comment about the directives, saying the directives issued by the State President is meant to save the lives of Ugandans.
When the first case of Coronavirus was confirmed in Uganda on 22nd March 2020, President Yoweri Museveni has so far made eight Presidential addresses in less than two weeks on pandemic during which he gives directives for the public to observe following the out break reaching the country.
Among the directives the President has issued so far, are the temporary closure of all schools, ban on large gatherings which include prayers, funerals, rural markets, and public transport.
Further, he has ordered a 14 days’ total lockdown during night hours which started on 31st March 2020, which according to reports, is not being fully followed by some people.
It is against this background that Bishop Wanok in his comment advises the general public, noting that the precautions issued by the President are a life saving move. He said it this as the reason why religious leaders are adding their voices to the public to adhere to the directives.
Bishop Wanok called on Christians to refrain from lingering and loitering in towns and trading centres but observe precautions given by Health Ministry and directives issued by the President in a bid to control the spread of Coronavirus.
He emphasized the need for prayers at home and hygiene among those selling food in the markets so as to keep the discipline of sanity among other precautions.
