ETHIOPIA: Church Limits Liturgical Services Only To Priests
By Habtamu Abrdew Berure
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia has decided to limit public liturgical services only to priests as a way of preventing the spread of COVID 19.
The faithful will stay at home until further notice is issued by the Bishops’ Conference, and pray at home as of April 2.
Meanwhile, parish priests will continue to celebrate daily mass, offer daily morning, evening prayers and midday angelus. However, the Church shall continue to ring bells as it is the custom to invite the faithful to join the Church in spirit and public address system where available could be used.
Meanwhile Ethiopia’s broadcaster has allocated air time to religious institutes to transmit prayers, teachings and massages of hope, following a fruitful discussion between the Inter Religious Council of Ethiopia and the government.
In additions to these live Holy Mass transmission will be facilitated by the Media Corporations during the Ethiopian Holy week and Easter.
