The Coordinator of the Catholic Scouts Association in Uganda Rev. Fr. Ceaser Matovu has urged the youth in the country to use their scouting skills to strengthen youth ministry in the Church.

He made this appeal on 2 November 2019 while addressing a group of Students from St Mary’s National Major Seminary Ggaba who paid a visit to Chiro Scouts camping site in Wakisu District which is under the care and juridical administration of Kampala Archdiocese.

Fr. Matovu said there is need for the youth to put the skills acquired in scouting into practice in order to make young people become more lively in the Church, citing active participation during Liturgy, Youth Apostolate and pilgrimages among others.

He noted that people prefer to use scouts to mobilize various social groupings and other activities while neglecting their active participation in various programs in the Church.

He has appealed to the scouts to always put spiritual activities such as praying the Rosary, organizing Holy Mass and organizing days of reflection on the Word of God as a priority in a bid to deepen their spiritual life.

Fr. Matovu who said scouting can be a good channel of evangelization among the youth added that besides spiritual life, scouting should be the moment for young people to nurture their moral growth.

As scout coordinator, he said he is planning to hold a Liturgical leadership camp to equip young people with relevant skills and prepare them to become responsible and God fearing citizens.

He has also appealed to other institutions of learning in the country to embrace the scouting culture so as to help students expose their talents and put them in right use.
