Malawi: Parents Urged To encourage Children To Be Missionaries
Many Catholics are being baptised while young. Their baptism signifies being sent on a mission to the ends of the world as the theme for this year’s Extraordinary Missionary Month of October suggest “Baptise and Sent”.
As Catholics in the world are being urged to make extra effort on missionary work this month, a call has been placed on parents in Malawi to encourage children to be missionaries and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Fr Vincent Mwakwawa who is National Director for Pontifical Missionary Society (PMS) in Malawi disclosed a need for parents to encourage children to take prayer life seriously.
Setting an example, the Church has organised Rosary for Children across the world to encourage children to pray for various issues affecting people.
“Pope Francis urges us that we should all be missionaries, while they are young, these children must be encouraged to be missionaries and they can be missionaries by praying for peace in the world,” said Fr Mwakhwawa.
He then urged parents, “It is my plea to parents that they must teach children to be missionaries, instead of abusing them, let us encourage them to serve the Church and deepen their prayer life.”
The PMS Director added that children in the country can be encouraged to pray for peace as the country is still witnessing post elections ugly scenes of violence.
Over one million children had Rosary prayers across the world on 18th October 2019. Through luminous mysteries, children prayed for peace, the sick, and people that are yet to be reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Children have also prayed for the gift of faith and for the spirit of praying for other people’s needs.
