MALAWI: Radio Maria Malawi Celebrates 20th Anniversary

After hitting the airwaves on August 24, 1999, Radio Maria Malawi on Saturday September 28, cerebrated two decades of existence.

In his homily during the anniversary Holy Mass, Episcope of Mangochi Diocese who is also Bishop Chairman for the Communications and Research Commission of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), His lordship Montfort Stima, hailed Radio Maria Malawi for working tirelessly in spreading the Gospel of the Lord amidst tough economic times and hardships the station is going through.

“My dear brothers and sisters, Radio Maria is the most powerful tool which the Catholic Church in Malawi uses to advance its mission of evangelization. Let us put our resources together so as to propel the vision and mission of this radio,” said the Bishop.

Bishop Stima also saluted men and women who have vowed to render their services to the radio on voluntary basis and extended God’s blessing to the veterans who served the radio and received certificates of recognition at the occasion.

The director of Radio Maria Malawi, Fr. Joseph Kimu, thanked God for His providence for the radio to be able to execute its duties effectively. He also thanked Rt. Rev Montfort Stima for his overwhelming support to the Radio.

Radio Maria Africa representative Miss Veronica Mwita, said the World Family of Radio Maria will and shall always continue helping Radio Maria Malawi in one way or the other. She announced that her organization will fund the construction of Radio Maria Malawi headquarters in Lilongwe. She further drummed up support for Radio Maria Malawi to quench its challenges.

The Guest of Honour at the event, Mrs. Francisca Masamba Theula who is an ex-volunteer of Radio Maria Malawi and currently Member of Parliament for Mangochi North-East Constituency thanked people of good will who have been assisting the radio financially. She has pledged to donate MK 1, 000, 000 to further support the radio’s operations
