KENYA: AMECEA Secretaries General Meet in Nairobi for Planning and Evaluation

Secretaries General From AMECEA Countries During their meeting in Nairobi

Secretaries General from AMECEA countries have recently been converging at AMECEA Secretariat in Nairobi for their ordinary meeting. Top on their agenda, according to AMECEA Secretary General Rev. Fr. Anthony Makunde, was an evaluation of the implementation of AMECEA Strategic Plan and the resolutions of the 19th Plenary Assembly which was held in July last year in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

Secretaries General AMECEAAs part of the planning towards the implementations of the strategic plan and the plenary resolutions, Fr. Makunde expressed that AMECEA Secretariat has taken the initiative to move closer to the Conferences by having more of its activities held at the conferences level.

“Calling people to Nairobi has its advantages but we think that coming to the Conferences will cement and strengthen the corporation and networking that is supposed to be done by AMECEA Secretariat. This has been the model of our operation in this period and as such our departments here at the Secretariat have arranged quite a number of activities in the Conferences and we will continue to do that.”

He further expressed that the Secretariat is trying to discourage the tendency of departments or commissions working independently, a situation that is quite evident in a number of Conferences. This, he said, does not create a big impact from the services offered as it would when commissions and departments collaborate and work together. He therefore encouraged his colleagues to adopt the same spirit in their own Conferences and encourage joint activities among departments and commissions.

During the meeting AMECEA Secretariat heads of department were given opportunities to share their activities with the Secretaries General in a bid to get feedback from them on how to improve on collaborations and effective service delivery.

“Your feedback is vital to us here at the Secretariat because we might be planning as a regional office for activities which may not be relevant to Conferences, and this would mean wastage of resources. We need to maximize the use of the little resources we have hence the need to plan according to what suits the Conferences, dioceses and institutions we have,” Fr. Makunde informed the Secretaries General.

Secretaries General AMECEA In NairobiDuring the meeting, Fr. Makunde officially welcomed among them, the new Secretary General of Ethiopia Rev. Abba Teshome Fikre Woldetensae who assumed office on 31st August this year. He also congratulated and thanked the Secretary General of Uganda Episcopal Conference Msgr. John Baptist Kauta for the successful planning and hosting the Golden Jubilee and the 18th Plenary Assembly of SECAM in July.

The Secretaries General from AMECEA Region usually have two ordinary meetings in a year to share experiences, plan together and also review the implementations of whatever resolutions were made either by the plenary assembly or by the executive board meetings.
