UGANDA: President Museveni Urges Commonwealth Delegates to Mitigate Greed and Intolerance

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged the Commonwealth delegates to mitigate the spirit of greed and intolerance and promote cooperation in a bid to grow.

In his key note address at the official opening of the 64th Commonwealth parliamentary conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala on Thursday 26th September, the President noted that greed and bigotry has continued to impede shared valuable interactions among different races.

His Excellency the president went on to say that greed for wealth blocks the ideal use of the growth in technology for the good of humanity adding that it is something that must be wiped out.

He exhorted delegates at the Commonwealth conference not to create crises to suppress those who disagree with them in ideologies but rather to lay foundation for a peaceful competition on different ideas of progress and development for all.

The President then advised the western countries to respect the internal systems of developing countries and inspire them by their example.

“When puppies are young, feed them equally because you don’t know which one will be a hunter when they grow up”, said the President.

He expressed optimism that the memorable 64th commonwealth conference being held in Kampala will be productive and beneficial to all the participating countries.

Meanwhile the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga highlighted the rapid urbanization and the negative consequences, climate change, poverty and human rights violations as cross-cutting issues that world leaders should find a lasting solution to it.

The speaker also reminded the Commonwealth delegates not to forget that they are the bridge between government and the people who need service delivery.

Hon Emilia Lifaka Monjowa the Chairperson of the Commonwealth women parliamentary Association commended Rebecca Kadaga the Speaker of the parliament of Uganda for being an inspiration for young legislators in the region.

The 64th Commonwealth conference that started on 22nd September is being held under the theme: Adaption, engagement, and evolution of parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth. It is scheduled to end on Sunday 29th September 2019.
