Speaking at the function, Rev. Fr. Michael Rop, the Acting Director of CUEA Gaba Campus said that the presentations that have been showcased over the years have positively perfected the journey of the mission of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) not just in the Countries within the AMECEA Region but also beyond, because the conference has often attracted participants from almost every other part of Africa.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Conference, Prof. Sagary Kaku Nokoe DVC Academics at Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) expressed gratitude to all participants of the conference. He pointed out however that looking at the topical issues raise at the conference, one gets a feeling that a workshop would be more beneficiary than a conference, because a workshop would bring in more participants together while a conference only offers opportunity for presenters to come offer their presentations and leave.

“Looking at the program, you can see a lot of presentations that indeed complement each other and it would be quite beneficiary if the forum is a workshop and not a conference,” Prof. Kaku said.

He lauded the initiative to hold the conference as it offer forum to academicians and practitioners in every field, who need to write and share their knowledge with the rest of the world.

As is the tradition, selected presentations would be published in the Africa Ecclesial Review (AFER), a referee journal of the Catholic Church in Africa with international reputation as indicated by Dr. Simon Kang’ethe, former Director of Gaba Campus.

In his message of solidarity, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Chimombo, AMECEA Deputy Secretary General challenged the writers to keep in mind four key principles when putting their pen on paper. These include the aspect of compassion which he said is key, secondly is the right intention about what one wants to share with the public. Third is the need for commitment to one’s society and finally the fourth point is the social responsibility which obliges one to own up what they have written and the consequence of their writings.
