ZAMBIA: Lumen TV, A New Chapter as Signal Testing Commences
The Catholic Bishops of Zambia say the setting up of Lumen TV Zambia marks a new chapter in the history of the evangelizing mission of the Catholic Church in Zambia.
The National Television signal distributor, Topstar, has granted a channel to Lumen TV on the national TV bouquet to start broadcasting. Lumen TV Zambia has since commenced test broadcasting.
Speaking when he opened a training workshop for prospective Lumen TV reporters on Tuesday, 27th August, 2019, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Secretary General, Fr. Cleophas Lungu said the Catholic Church has a grand opportunity to provide the Zambian audience not only Catholic content but also a Catholic perspective on any happenings.
“We now have a grand opportunity to provide the Zambian audience not only the Catholic content but also the Catholic perspective on what is happenings in the country,” Fr. Lungu said.
Fr. Lungu however said the setting up of Lumen TV Zambia comes with a challenge of maintaining high standards that people generally associate with the Catholic Church.
“This development [the setting up of Lumen TV Zambia] comes with a number of challenges due to the fact that the word ‘Catholic’ in Zambia is normally and strongly associated with delivery of quality and affordable services. This is quite evident in the field of education, health and social development. Therefore, we have the challenge not only to maintain our standards high but also to excel to greater heights,” he said.
He revealed that the Catholic Church in Zambia is excited that the dream of establishing a National Catholic Television is becoming a reality and described the development as an achievement worth celebrating.
