UGANDA: Diocesan Chancellor Urges Youth to Be Economically Productive

Rev. Fr. Solomon Oyepa, Chancellor Lira Diocese

The Chancellor of Lira Diocese Rev. Fr. Solomon Oyepa has urged the youth in Lango Sub-Region to wake up and embrace productive activities so that they are able to come out of poverty and joblessness.

While reflecting on his one-year pastoral experience as a priest, Rev. Fr. Solomon Oyepa said he has seen less participation of the youth in Church affairs and other developmental engagements in society, but only indulging in alcohol consumption and other less productive work.

The Chancellor further asked the Youth to come out in big numbers and embrace massive tree planting in order to combat the global warming and its erratic consequences.

Commenting on the high rate of unemployment in the country, the Chancellor passionately advised the young people to use their talents and creativity to create work for themselves.

“We don’t need to be given work; we can create work for ourselves. Many of us have natural gifts that God has given us. We don’t have to wait to be employed but use our creativity and be self-employed,” said Fr. Solomon.

In an interview, the Chancellor further asked the youth to know how to defend their interests and what is good for them so that they can support each other. The 32 years old Chancellor also appealed to the youth to build their families on good morals. On a stronger note, he challenged the youth to stop indulging in excessive alcohol drinking habits, help their parents to embrace commercial farming and move towards a positive direction for growth and development.

He then appealed to traditional, religious and political leaders to provide guidance to the youth and help them focus on social development and prosperity.
