MALAWI: TEVETA Applauds Catholic Women For Complementing Government Efforts To Empower Women
Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) has applauded the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) in the Archdiocese of Blantyre for empowering women with vocation skills.
Speaking at the official opening of a workshop for training of the trainers held at Limbe Cathedral, Southern Regional Service Centre Manager for TEVETA Victor Luwambala applauded CWO for complementing government efforts in empowering people of this country.
“As TEVETA, we are happy that the CWO in the Archdiocese of Blantyre is helping us to reach out to more people in this country with various vocation skills, we know that a lot of people out there need empowerment, but we are challenged with our capability to train more people,” said Luwambala.
He further applauded CWO for mobilizing resources that are to be used during the period of training as he urged the current trainees to help other women in all the parishes that are under the Archdiocese of Blantyre.
CWO Chairperson in the Archdiocese of Blantyre, Lucy Vokhiwa, expressed hope that more women will benefit from this initiative.
“At our National AGM that was held in Chikwawa in 2016, we learnt that women from the dioceses of Mzuzu and Karonga were already benefiting from TEVETA with various vocational skills. Therefore, we thought of doing the same in the Archdiocese of Blantyre and dioceses of Chikwawa, Zomba and Mangochi, ” said Vokhiwa.
Vokhiwa added that CWO looks forward to a sustained relationship with TEVETA as a way of ensuring that more women benefit from the programs. Eighty to be trained as trainers who, in turn, will train other women in all the forty-three parishes that are under the Archdiocese of Blantyre. The skills include tailoring, poultry and bakery.
