UGANDA: Bishop Appeals To Catechists To Obey And Cooperate With Church Authority
The Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok has asked catechists to observe obedience and cooperation to their superiors in their service of evangelization of the people of God.
The Bishop made the appeal while presiding over Eucharistic celebration at St. John Bosco Catholic Chapel Adwila, his first pastoral visit outside his Cathedra in Lira Cathedral Parish since his installation on 9th February this year.
Thirteen (13) catechists were commissioned as Extra-Ordinary Eucharistic Ministers while 278 boys and girls received Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday 4th July.
The Bishop said catechists are carefully chosen so much that they should be exemplary in faith and good moral conduct among the people of God.
He cited the need for the catechists to forego worldly things that can compromise their integrity in the work of evangelization, such as indulging in alcohol abuse and idleness.
“Even when you like taking alcohol, you have to desist from excessing drinking. And then staying late at night, there is no time for that during your service as catechists. You have to be punctual for prayer services, putting in front Christ and the Christian community.”
The Bishop further urged the Catechists to grow in holiness and witness Christ’s love to the Christian families.
Addressing the congregation gathered for the occasion, the Bishop called upon all Christians to unite in praying for peace in their families, calling it an inner disposition which allows the flow of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the blessings from God the Father.
He further urged Christians to offer spiritual support to catechists so that they succeed in the family apostolate and other ministries that are at the centre of evangelization.
