TANZANIA: Irresponsibility, and Laziness In Church And Government, A Clear Manifestation of Ignoring The Holy Spirit

Rt. Rev. Ludovick Minde, Bishop of Kahama Diocese

Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Kahama in North West Tanzania, Rt. Rev. Ludovick Minde has urged Church and Government officials to open up to the Holy Spirit so as to be able to carry out the responsibilities.

Speaking recently during Pentecost Mass in Kahama Diocese, Bishop Minde said that when the Holy Spirit filled the apostles, he gave them power to work and they began the ministry of preaching Good news.

“They were ordered to remain indoors praying until they received the Holy Spirit. After the Pentecost, they got empowered to work and evangelize and that is when the Church was born,” he explained.

“Catholics today have received the Holy Spirit and many of us have been assigned different public duties. Some work in the Church, others in Government institutions. If they don’t collaborate with the Holy Spirit who provides wisdom and knowledge, they cannot perform to their expectation.”

He thus asked the believers to work with passion, love and loyalty to increase efficiency in their mission.

“Today is the Feast of the Laity in the Church. You have a mission in the Church and nation; use your gifts to evangelize and to sanctify the world. You the laity are the wealth of the Church and our nations,” he said.

He encouraged believers to use the gifts given by the Holy Spirit by sharing and serving the Church and society in order for the world to enjoy the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Bishop Minde stated that the Holy Spirit has come upon the believers and given them different gifts, but it is unfortunate that many of them do not use them properly. “Instead of proclaiming the Good News, they boast about themselves. That is why there is weakness and under performance in the Church and government.”

“The biggest problem we have in society is that there are Christians who are not fulfilling their obligations even though they are entrusted with different positions and obligation. Some people are lazy and bring coldness in the Church, some even sabotage. If we become lazy people who do not fulfil our obligations, how will we proclaim Christ? We must collaborate with the Holy Spirit. This is the reason the Church has the Prayer of ‘Come Holy Spirit’ before doing anything,” he said.

He insisted that Government officials must be aggressive and sincere so as to bring about change and social transformation.

“Despite their political agenda, they must invite the Holy Spirit to lead them, they must not escape Her. Without wisdom all shall be in vain.”
