UGANDA: Bishop of Lira Diocese to Join Ugandans in Diaspora to Celebrate Uganda Martyrs Day
The Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok has left for Boston in the United States of America to represent the Uganda Episcopal Conference as the Ugandans in the diaspora will be commemorating the Uganda Martyrs on 9th June.
Bishop Wanok disclosed his trip in an interview from Namugongo where he attended this year’s Martyrs Day celebrations that attracted over a million pilgrims from all over Africa and beyond.
The departure of Bishop Santo Lino Wanok to Boston means that he shall miss the annual plenary of Uganda Episcopal Conference, which normally takes place immediately after the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations at Namugongo.
He explained that he has been sent by the Uganda Episcopal Conference to go and pray with the Ugandans living in the United States who have organized the celebration in Boston on the 9th. June.
Bishop Wanok asked the Christians in Lira Diocese to pray through the intercession of the Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions, popularly known as the Uganda Martyrs, for the success of the pastoral activities being undertaken in the Diocese.
He noted the absence of the Bishop Emeritus of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzelli who could not attend the Martyrs Day celebration as he is attending to his brother in Italy who is currently unwell and appealed to all Christians in the Diocese to pray for his quick recovery.
Bishop Wanok returns to the Diocese on 15th June 2019.
