MALAWI: Answer The Lord’s Calling Without Hesitation, Bishop Tambala Urges Youths
Bishop of Zomba Diocese, Rt. Rev. George Desmond Tambala has advised the youth not to ignore the Lord’s calling to different vocations in the Church.
Bishop Tambala was speaking at Zomba Cathedral at the celebration of this year’s Vocations Sunday. He said the youth should be decisive and answer the Lord’s calling without hesitation, imitating the example of Saint Peter whom Jesus told to leave everything and follow Him and he did so.
The local Ordinary of Zomba Diocese said there are a number of vocations in the Catholic Church among the youth, who are the most energetic group of Christians in the Church.
“Reflect deeply on your life and make a decision of what you want to become in the future,” said Bishop Tambala.
On the use of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the Bishop advised the youth to use social media responsibly as a platform for sharing their faith and enhancing education.
On politics in the context of the May 21, 2019 Tripartite elections in the country, Bishop Tambala did not endorse any candidate or political party but rather advised the youth to vote wisely by choosing leaders who have the welfare of the people at heart.
He said voters should be guided by qualities of a good leader as outlined by the Catholic Bishops in their recent Pastoral Letter entitled ‘A Call For a New Era in Malawi’.
The National Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Director Fr. Vincent Mwakhwawa thanked all vocations promoters from different Religious Congregations in the Catholic Diocese of Zomba for coming in large numbers on the day to inspire the youth.
He said that the Vacations Day gives the youth an opportunity to hear about the various vocations so that they can properly discern God’s calling.
Representing the youth of Zomba Diocese, Steve Mataka thanked the PMS National Office for taking this year’s Vocations Sunday celebrations to Zomba Diocese, saying that it was a great spiritual motivation that has inspired the youth of the Diocese.
He added that youths in the Diocese will deeply reflect and encourage discussions on Pope Francis’s Vocations Day message and do the needful.
This year’s Vocations Sunday National Celebration was held concurrently with the Diocesan Youth Rally in Zomba and it attracted a cross-section of youths from parishes and schools across the Diocese.
The 2019 Vocations Sunday theme from the Holy Father, Pope Francis, was ‘the courage to take a risk for God’s promise’.
