UGANDA: Gulu Archdiocese to hold fundraising dinner for 2019 Martyrs Day celebration

With exactly one month to go for the 2019 Uganda Martyrs Day (UMD) celebration, the Archdiocese of Gulu has organized a fundraising dinner slated for Sunday, May 8 at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala.

Having been chosen by the Uganda Episcopal Conference in June 2018 to organize and animate this year’s UMD celebrations due June 3rd at Namugongo Catholic Shrine, Gulu Archdiocese aims at raising approximately US$245,000 (Uganda Shillings 900 million) to cater for all the preparation activities and actual celebration. The money is needed to fund the activities including liturgical preparations, health preparedness, accommodation and transport, communication and publicity among others.

According to the chief organizer of the fundraising dinner, Richard Akena the event will begin at 5pm and close at 8pm with a grand fundraising drive.

“We have received favorable feedback from the people that we have approached so far,” he said, “We are looking forward to it. It means a lot to us being the main organizers this year. We appeal to all to support this fundraising drive generously for a successful UMD celebration.”

The dinner is expected to attract about 300 guests including individuals and corporate companies. Tickets cost approximately US$27 (Uganda Shillings 100,000) per person and can be purchased prior to the event; they will also be available at the door. The chief guest of the event will be the executive chairman of Pepsi products, Amos Nzeyi.

Meanwhile, the Archdiocese is also set to hold a pre-Namugongo fundraising walk dubbed ‘the Walk of Faith’.
