TANZANIA: Bishop Kassala Appeals for Dialogue and peaceful Co-existence as Most Rev. Nyaisonga Is Installed Archbishop of Mbeya
The Vice President of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) Rt. Rev Flavian Kassala has pointed out that for a country to develop dialogue is necessary and that there is a need to promote national values of justice and equality in serving the people.
Bishop Kassala has said this while speaking on behalf of the TEC during the celebration of the Holy Mass of installation of Archbishop Gervas Nyaisonga of the newly created Archdiocese of Mbeya, held at Sokoine Stadium, Mbeya City, on 28th April 2019.
Bishop Kassala reminded the congregation about the TEC message of Lent for 2019 whereby they considered family as the essence of society, arguing that the concept of a family should not only end up with the father, mother and children but the whole nation.
Bishop Kassala has also noted that the creation of the Archdiocese of Mbeya and the installation of Archbishop Nyaisonga is an honor and something that reflects the maturity of the local church in Tanzania. He added that the reasons for Rome to elevate Mbeya to become archdiocese is for the pastoral good of the people of God, in accordance with the laws of the Church.
He also said that the Catholic Church in Tanzania is proud of her history in serving the Church in Africa, referring to the late Lauren Cardinal Rugamwa who became the first African Cardinal.
The elevation of Mbeya to archdiocese and the installation of its first archbishop was also attended by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. John Pombe Magufuli who has called on the faithful to pray for Most Rev. Nyaisonga so that he may fulfill his duties.
“I was not surprised when Pope Francis appointed Bishop Nyaisonga to become the first Archbishop of Mbeya. He is a humble person who knows how to love people. Pray for him so that he may fulfill the responsibility of leading the Church as God has sent him,” he said.
