MALAWI: ECM Trains Catholic Women Organization In Leadership

In quest to equip the newly elected national and diocesan Catholic Women Organization (CWO) committees with leadership skills , the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) conducted a five days comprehensive training in leadership and management for the committees.

This was due to the realization that women are crucial in various apostolates of the Church and the newly elected leaders needed skills and guidance to carry their duties with diligence.

Speaking during the training, Bishop Chairman for the Pastoral Commission, Rt. Rev Peter Martin Musikuwa acknowledge the important role that women play in the Church and society, hence the need to support them for development of their leadership skills.

“It remains an undisputed fact that women are instrumental in the Church and in our respective communities,” said Bishop Musikuwa.

On the forth coming May 21 Tripartite elections, the Bishop has urged the Catholic women to support fellow women who have the capacity to save the nation and transform the country.

The Bishop further assured women that the Catholic Church will and shall continue rendering them support She appreciates their role.

In his remarks the National Chaplain for the Laity, Fr. Vincent Mwakhwawa hailed the women for patronizing the training. He added that ECM will closely monitor the committees across all dioceses in the country to check if the training will bear fruits.

“This does not mark the end of the road. Try as much as you can to utilize the knowledge you have acquired from this training,” said he.

Speaking on her part, the CWO National Chairlady Mrs. Lucy Vokhiwa appreciated ECM’s efforts and promised that the committees will put to use the skills they have gained.

“The 2019-2023 CWO Strategic plan aims at ensuring that Catholic Women in Malawi deepen their faith and spiritual knowledge so as to be missionary of Jesus Christ and stewards of God’s creation; strengthening pastoral commitment; ensuring that Catholic women in Malawi are politically, economically and socially empowered; and that CWO is effective, efficient and sustainable.”

The training was held under the theme “Leadership for Salvation” and over 69 women from the eight Catholic dioceses of Malawi patronized the training.
