UGANDA: Bishop-Elect of Soroti Advocates for Massive tree planting Exercise

The Bishop Elect of Soroti Catholic Diocese

Rt. Rev. Joseph Eciru Oliach has urged all Ugandans to embark on tree planting as a way of combating global warming.

Speaking from St Mary’s National Seminary where he has been a formator and a lecturer before receiving the appointment as Bishop elect of Soroti Catholic Diocese, he revealed that if all stakeholders advocated for tree planting and stopped degrading wetlands, there would be no water crisis for food production.

“We must all engage in serious tree planting because we are suffering the effects of cutting trees ”, he said adding that natural resource management would create a better environment.

His message comes following the current wave of drought that has hit most parts of the country including Teso Sub-region, the Jurisdiction of Soroti Catholic Diocese.

He went on to say tree planting should be the priority to be embraced in a move to counteract global warming and erratic weather. He also reiterated the need for Christians to remain responsible citizens and refrain from deforestation which he said is contributing to global warming characterized by high temperatures and drought.

The bishop-elect will be installed on May 25, 2019 in Soroti Diocese.
