Zambia Conference of Catholic (ZCCB)’s Bishop Director for Pastoral Commission, Rt. Rev. Clement Mulenga, SDB has bemoaned the lack of strategies to grow the Catholic Church in Zambia.

He has expressed worry that many times even at global level there is no strategy to grow the Church and keep the numbers.

Speaking when he opened the orientation meeting of the newly set ZCCB National Pastoral Commission at Kapingila house in Lusaka on Friday, 15th March, 2019, Bishop Mulenga said the Catholic Church seems content and happy with the number of people it has.

“We have a daunting work. Sometimes we look satisfied with the numbers that we have. We see our Churches full and we are happy that we are doing well. Yet in Africa, the religion that represents the continent is Islam. Islam claims Africa as its own. So there is need on our part to put our efforts together and strategize on how to increase our numbers,” he said.

Bishop Mulenga further expressed concern at the number of people leaving the Catholic Church for other faiths.

The ZCCB National Pastoral Commission brings together all departments of ZCCB responsible for pastoral matters. Among other roles, the National Pastoral Commission promotes the vision and mission of the Church in Zambia.
