“Catechists are the basic evangelizers of Christians; they are the closest to the people in society because they live right among them. As the world migrates from analogue to digital, there is need to train catechists in modern IC technologies so that they can keep up with the digital world and evangelize the people using the digital platforms,” said Bishop Zziwa who is also Chairman of Uganda Episcopal Conference and member of AMECEA Executive Board.According to Rev. Fr. Joseph Sserunjogi, a priest of Kiyinda Mityana Diocese and current rector of

St. Mbaaga Major Seminary in Ggaba, the Centre admits students from all over Uganda even though some dioceses have now established their own catechetic training centres; and the training lasts for two years.

Fr. Sserunjogi indicated that the centre can accommodate between 80 to 100 and is usually full, meaning that the demand is high. Training program includes Homiletics, Spirituality, Anthropology, Pastoral Theology, Catechism, Catechesis, Small Christian Communities (SCCs), Ecumenism, Church History, Leadership, Communications, Basic Computer Studies and Canon Law on Marriage.

Trainees are usually recommended and supported by their parishes or from the diocesan office. Candidates are selected on the basis of their being active and practicing Catholics; with interest in Catechesis; and who have the basic education that allows them to communicated in English. In addition, they must obtain recommendation from their parish priest.

The Golden Jubilee celebration was attended by representatives from other dioceses including Hoima, Kampala, Lugazi, Kasana-Luwero, Kasese and many others.
