TANZANIA: St. Augustine University of Tanzania gets new Vice Chancellor

President of Tanzania Episcopal Conference, Archbishop-elect Gervas Nyaisonga, has appointed Prof. Costa Rica Mahalu New Vice Chancellor of Saint Augustine University (SAUT).

This appointment was announced on February 28 this year after the SAUT employment committee interviewed Prof. Mahalu and found him fit for the position.

Bishop Nyaisonga who is the Chancellor of SAUT, said Professor Costa-Rica Mahalu replaces Prof. Gabriel Mbassa, who was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of SAUT in the acting capacity Vice Chancellor of the University after the Vice Chancellor, Dr.Fr. Thadeus Mkamwa left for further studies.

Most Rev. Nyaisonga said Prof. Mahalu was a SAUT lecturer at the Faculty of Law. After SAUT announced the vacancy, he applied for the position and was interviewed on February 10 this year and he met the criteria of becoming Vice Chancellor of SAUT.

He further said that SAUT appoints professors to hold the three highest position of the University as per requirement of the Government of Tanzania.

He also disclosed that Prof. Gabriel Mbassa continues to be an employee of the Catholic Church in Tanzania; and that he will be assigned for other duties at the University or elsewhere.
