AMECEA Secretariat in collaboration Catholic University of Eastern Africa and in partnership with Missio Aachen, has conducted a capacity building workshop in self-reliance, management, administration and leadership for the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB).
The capacity building training workshop held at Kapingila house from the 11th to 16th February, 2019 attracted bishops and some staff from the Catholic Secretariat.
AMECEA Chairperson Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde who is a member of the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops described the training workshop as very important to the Church in Zambia saying it will make the efforts of evangelization sustainable and improve Church leaders’ skills, capacities and knowledge to come to the full realisation of what is required of them.
He said the component of resource mobilization in the training is imperative as most dioceses in Zambia are rural and struggling in many ways.
Bishop Kasonde has since sent gratitude to the Germany Catholic Bishops through Missio Aachen for funding the training, describing them as an unwavering partner that has helped the local Church in many ways.
Meanwhile the ZCCB Secretary General Fr. Cleophas Lungu who also appreciated the training workshop said in order to build a Church that is vibrant, there is need to build the capacity of its leaders starting with the bishops.
He explained that the process of capacity building will get to the clergy, religious and lay people with the aim of building their capacity in management and leadership, and enhance the systems of administration within the Church as well as management of all the resources.
Fr Lungu said the building of capacity in the human capital of the Church will result in modernizing the way of running parishes as well as generating and taking care of financial resources.
He explained that this development will result in higher levels of transparency, stewardship and accountability.
Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops is the 3rd conference to be trained. The next will be Uganda while Ethiopia and Tanzania have been trained already.
