ZAMBIA: President Edgar Lungu Pays Tribute to Catholic Church

President Edgar Lungu has paid tribute to the Catholic Church in Zambia for supplementing Government efforts in providing quality education. President Lungu said Government appreciates the unwavering support it has been receiving from the Catholic Church in the education sector.

He assured the Church that his Government will continue supporting the noble causes being undertaken by the Church to improve the standard of education in the country.

“The efforts of the Catholic Church to enhance human development through quality education are highly appreciated,” he stated.

The Head of State said this on 26 January 2019 during a gala dinner organised by the Archdiocese of Lusaka to fundraise for the construction of the first boys’ secondary school boarding in Lusaka.

President Lungu saluted the Church for undertaking the project, saying the decision to build the school is a right step towards increasing the number of boarding schools in Lusaka.

President Lungu revealed that Lusaka has a few boarding schools which are mostly run by the private sector and bemoaned the situation as it has left parents and the boy-child with limited choices for boarding schools.

Mr. Lungu has since implored other stakeholders and the private sector to support the project embarked on by the Catholic Church.

The President said the Catholic Church should not be left alone but noted that concerted efforts are required if the project is to be successful implemented.

He also pointed out that the plans to build a boys’ boarding school is a testimony of the Catholic Church’s commitment to providing quality education.
