SOUTH SUDAN: UNICEF appeals for USD 180 Million to feed South Sudanese
The United Nations Children’s Agency, UNICEF, is appealing for 180 million US Dollars to meet the humanitarian needs of more than 800,000 women and children in South Sudan. The Acting UNICEF Representative in South Sudan, Andrea Suley, says most of the money will be used to provide food aid, Voice of America (VOA) reported.
The official notes that 4.4 million children in South Sudan are in need of assistance and that the malnutrition level requires over 50 million Dollars in 2019. UNICEF also plans to spend 45 million Dollars to fund water, sanitation and hygiene projects in 2019.
Suley hopes all that sides adhere to the latest peace agreement as many South Sudanese are still suffering up to this time. UNICEF’s appeal comes one month after it said the world is failing to protect children living in conflict zones around the world, with catastrophic consequences.
