ETHIOPIA: Cardinal Berhaneyesus commends St Gabriel Parish’s leap on self-sustainability
“The God of heaven will grant us success and we, his servants, mean to start building” Nehemiah 2: 20
The Archdiocese of Addis Ababa St. Gabriel Parish inaugurates the multipurpose hall constructed as part of the Parish effort for self-sustainability on January 27, a day dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel according to the Ethiopian liturgical calendar.
On the occasion, His Eminence Cardinal Berhaneyesus, CM. Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa and President of CBCE said that the Archdiocese is proud of the parish’s efforts for self-sustainability.
“We are here to celebrate the commendable efforts and commitment of all the parishioners and the faithful that supported the construction of this multipurpose hall. I give particular acknowledgement to the Hosanna Christian Community in the parish and the Construction Committee who from the inception of the idea, devoted their valuable time and saw through the completion of this building. May God bless all your efforts,” he said.
Also speaking on the occasion Mr. Asrat Habtemariam, Chairman of the Construction Committee noted that Catholics from all parishes in and outside Ethiopia, Religious congregations and the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa put their hands together to support this construction. He said this shows that if all the faithful collaborate as one family, a lot can be achieved in all the Parishes.
He recalled that even though the parish is more than 50 years old, lack of office space and halls had been a big challenge for the Parish. It was in this consideration that the then Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Eyob Hailemichael, the Parish Council and the Hossana Christian Community decided to begin the project. He expressed his hope that this small beginning will grow to an even bigger accomplishment for service of the Church and the people.
The hall can accommodate up to 500 people. Previously, the Parish completed the construction of the multipurpose commercial spaces that are already being used as a means of income for the Parish.
