UGANDA: Pope Francis Appoints New Bishop of Lira
Rt. Rev. Santus Lino Wanok, Bishop of Nebbi Diocese has been appointed the new Bishop of Lira Diocese following the acceptance by the Holy Father Pope Francis, of the resignation from the pastoral care of the Lira Diocese presented by Rt. Rev. Giuseppe Franzelli, M.C.C.J, who has attained the age limit.
According to Canon Law (Can. 401 §1) every bishop who has attained 75 years of age is required to present his resignation from office to the Supreme Pontiff.
The acceptance of Bishop Franzelli’s resignation and the appointment of Bishop Wanok were published on VaticanBulletin of November 23, 2018.
Born on 7th April, 1957, in Atyak-Yamo Uganda, Bishop Wanok was ordained a priest of Arua Diocese on 27th September 1986 and later incardinated as a priest of Nebbi Diocese on 23rd February 1996. He was appointed Bishop of Nebbi on 8th February 2011 and ordained Bishop on 23rd November 2018.
According to information from Uganda Nunciature, Bishop Franzelli will remain as the Apostolic Administrator of Lira Diocese until the day of the Canonical possession by the new Bishop.
