The occasion was organized by Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba and the clergy of South Sudan.

The Catholic Bishops of South Sudan are proud because Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo is the first Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan in the history of the Church.

Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe of Yei, who spoke on behalf of Catholic Bishops of South Sudan, said Archbishop Balvo’s contribution has recorded a milestone in the history of the Church in the country.

He admits that the outgoing Nuncio tried his best in the five-year period to visit all diocese of South Sudan except Yei because of insecurity and sickness.

Archbishop Lukudu Loro says the farewell is meant for all the seven dioceses of South Sudan to say ‘Thank you’ to the outgoing Nuncio.

He calls on the outgoing Pope Ambassador to pray for the country so that it may attain lasting peace.

Representative of the Holy Father in South Sudan, Monsignor Mark Kadima, thanks all people in South Sudan for making the work of the outgoing Nuncio easier as he served the faithful in the mission.

Archbishop Balvo was appointed Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan in 2013 and is now assigned to the Czech Republic.

He said that while in his new mission in Czech Republic he will always remember South Sudan. He also pledged to pray for Christians and all people of the young country for peace to take root.

The event drew together Catholic Church leaders and priests of the seven dioceses, missionaries, faithful and Government representatives.
