South Sudan: UN Officials Acknowledge Decrease in levels of violence
Senior officials from the United Nations have acknowledge decrease in levels of violence in South Sudan compared to last year following the recent signing of the peace deal in August.
United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean Pierre Lacroix, said that they are encouraged that the parties involved in the peace agreement have made some progress especially on the cessation of hostilities.
He admitted that the decrease in the fighting should encourage women and civil population on the implementation of the peace deal, which will guarantee their safe return home.
The Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said that South Sudan women want to be included in the security sector reforms.
She adds that it includes greater participation and contribution by women in securing the country which would reduce the ugly activities of the forces.
The team that also included Specioza Wandera Kazibwe, co-chair of the Network of AU Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation.
