We are now in full force to do the the Implementation of the Resolutions of AMECEA 19th Plenary Assembly, says AMECEA Chairman Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde, Bishop of Solwezi Zambia.

Speaking in Nairobi, Kenya after the conclusion of the first AMECEA Executive Board Meeting since the 19th Plenary Assembly Meeting held in Addis Ababa Ethiopia in July 2018, Bishop Kasonde said that their two-days meeting held on 11th and 12th October focused on a number of issues. Among them was the confirmation and giving positions to those who were appointed and elected by the Plenary.

The Executive Board meeting also focused on ensuring that the coordination of the programs at AMECEA Secretariat as well as the management of the departments are given Bishop Chairs to guide and accompany the departments in their activities.

“For some members in this Executive Board, it has been a virgin trip and meeting for the first time but for the returning members it has been plain sailing,” Bishop Kasonde said adding that this signals their pilgrimage as a journey of faith, being accompanied by the Holy Spirit so that they can see what they ought to do for the growth of the AMECEA Family.

“What we have done is really to look at the resolutions that came out of the Study Sessions of the Plenary as well as the resolutions that came up during the Business Session which is also called the closed sessions for the Bishops. So we have looked at the two sets of the resolutions. For implementation, these will guide us for the next four years,” he explained adding that priority however would be given to each department at AMECEA Secretariat according to what pertains to their operation and implementation.

He further said that out of some of the resolutions from the Plenary Assembly, the Executive Board Members have come up with sets of resolutions which are more oriented towards the AMECEA Secretariat Departments for the operations and implementations, and some that would be communicated to the Member Episcopal Conferences so that they attend to what pertains to them.

The other aspect they deliberated upon was the office bearers: from the Chairman of AMECEA, the Executive Board Members appointed at the 19th Plenary Assembly; the chairmanship to departments at the Secretariat; the AMECEA Board of Trustees; Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Board of trustees; AMECEA Secretary General and the CUEA Council; as well as AMECEA Seminary Commission – all have all been confirmed. Also confirmed by the Board was the reappointment of Rt. Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba, Bishop of Nakuru as the Chairman of CUEA Council as well and the appointment of CUEA Vice Chancellor and the Rector of AMECEA Blessed Bakanja College.
