KENYA; Tangaza University College holds Second Annual Conference on Social Entrepreneurship

The conference brought together scholars and researchers, as ecosystem players and practitioners from around the continent, to discuss emerging concepts and explore topics in social enterprise, innovation, sustainability and impact through the lenses of an African continent.

According to Rev. Prof Stephen Mbugua, the outgoing Vice Chancellor Designate of Tangaza University College, the objective of the conference was to provide a platform to promote and support social entrepreneurship by connecting, sharing, partnering and learning from one another among the participants.

“There can be no growth in us if we cannot network, connect, share, partner and learn from one another because it is through these opportunities that we get feedback on our particular enterprises,” Prof Mbugua explained.

Organized by Tangaza University College and stakeholders in collaboration with the organizations that play major role in shaping social entrepreneurship ecosystem in Kenya and Africa in General, the second Annual Conference on Social Entrepreneurship was held under the theme: Contextualizing and Shaping Social Entrepreneurship in Africa.

The Conference was also geared towards providing a challenge to the entrepreneurs, researchers and academicians to translate education into technology business and services to the society. Therefore, it was not just a theoretical engagement, but rather, that which translates into action that eventually improves the welfare of the society.

According to Dr. Alloys Ojore from the Institute of Social Ministry in Mission, Tangaza University college is deeply committed to social entrepreneurship because the institution believes that this is one quick way of transforming the African Continent.

Through the Institute of Social Ministry in Mission founded in 1994, we prepare young men and women who graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainable Human Development, Master of Arts in Social Transformation and PhD in Social Transformation,” Dr. Ojore explained adding that their aim is to ensure that graduates return home to be protagonists of change in their respective communities.
